Word and Verse: Download or Buy?

    I think that this is a GREAT way to support a ministry. I know that if I had something like that, it would bless me a great deal to know that people are spending money (even if it is very little) to get my stuff. Good call dude!

    I'm a huge advocate of the "whatever you can afford" concept when it comes to paying for MP3 downloads, books, etc. For those who have the money, they should pay full price, however for those in full-time ministry, students, or even those in general financial need, then there should be some provision where they can pay whatever they can afford with the balance remaining being subsidized by those who are full time partners/donors to that ministry.

    Just a thought...

    Dan:

    Thank you, Dan, for the encouragement! I've started paying for downloads of some of my favorite sermons.

    Doug:

    I quite agree with you. I guess right now I qualify as close-to general financial need. :P I'd support ministries and missions if I had full means to, and even help those who would need such resources.

    I think it's a great way to give! Prayer is support, too..and you can donate that anytime for free! =] Don't get caught up in how much or little you have to lend to a great cause. Remember the story of the widow and her two copper coins? She gave all she had left and it was counted as more than the rich man's entire bag. I think it's awesome that you're giving by buying the sermon, just awesome!

    @Isaiah -

    Desiring God (John Piper's ministry) uses the whatever-you-can-afford policy and they have never made any appeals for more money to support it since for everyone who uses it, there are dozens who pay the full price. Personally I do pay for some MP3s, particularly those by James White, since they are remarkably cheap compared to getting a tape or CD.

    Thank you for the encouragement, Victoria.

    You know, it's funny that you should mention that example of the poor widow and her two coins. John MacArthur's take on that passage is one of my favorite sermons that I intend to download on paid-for MP3.

    I have featured the transcript of the sermon once on my blog that you can read here. It was an 'a-ha!' moment for me.

    Gee, I didn't know about that since I wasn't looking to pay for the MP3 downloads previously. Thank you for highlighting it, Doug!

    Yea, I should go check out those for James White as well. He's another good teacher in my opinion.
