Word and Verse: The Corruption of the Roman Church — A Timeline

interesting. just a pointer - "immaculate conception" refers to the idea that mary was born without sin. i think what you're thinking of is the "perpetual virginity" of mary.

Thanks for spotting that, LCT. I'll let the author know as well. :)

interesting.... I never did like the roman catholic teachings anw..

Hi, interesting read. I do hope however that you could remove the rebuttals or even better, remove this post.

I think it is polite to respect other people's religions and not aggressively denounce it's value. What is coal to one man might be gold to another.

And it is also unfair to do line quote rebuttals as the context of the entire passage will be lost. Finally, I would like to advise, based on Jesus' teachings, that "Let he who is without sin be the first to judge".

    God Bless.

    DHOPE,

    Hi there!

I was actually quite amused when I read your comment here, coz your comment is literally self-contradictory and internally inconsistent.

    You wrote:

"I think it is polite to respect other people’s religions and not aggressively denounce it’s value."

    Answer (from your own comment):

"What is coal to one man might be gold to another."

So my "gold" is to "denounce" other religions; unfortunately, that's your coal. So why don't you keep your comment to yourself? I have my gold, and you keep your coal? =P~

    You wrote:
"Finally, I would like to advise, based on Jesus’ teachings, that “Let he who is without sin be the first to judge”."

    Answer (also from your comment):

"It is also unfair to do line quote rebuttals as the context of the entire passage will be lost."

So why are you quoting "one line" from "Jesus' teachings" and using that as a rebuttal? :o

    Duh! =))

Please check Catholic.com for the Catholic Church's answers to the accusations made here.

More importantly, please note that the genealogy of Christ (Matthew 1) includes many sinners:
    1. Abraham, who lied about his relationship with wife Sarah and gave her up to adultery to save his life.
    2. Jacob, who cheated his brother Esau of his heritage and deceived his father Isaac into giving him the first son's blessings.
    3. Tamar, who “pretended” to be a prostitute and bore a child by her father-in-law Judah through sin and incest.
    4. Rahab, a prostitute, who became mother of Boaz.
    5. David, the king who has God's favor, who committed adultery with the wife of one of his loyal subjects and shortly after, murdered this poor man in spite of his loyalty to David.
    6. Bathsheba, an adulteress who became mother of one of the greatest and wisest king in history.
    7. A lineage of faithful kings of character, all of whom struggled with sin, unfaithfulness to God and country, and were not perfect, as well as those who were as bad as can be—even unspeakably evil.

Bottomline: We are all sinners. And God can do wonders through any one of us, even though we are sinners. "...all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

this is so true,i mean, christianity is still the best.

    unlike others.

christianity follows the bible, old and new testament.

but catholic just wants to stay forever and ever in the old testament.

    its like,u are in a desert,dying for water.and you a christian,takes the water,offers to ur partner with u,he denies it,and worships the glass,and u drank the water.

Thanks for posting this, Isaiah. :) I have been thinking about this topic recently and here it is! Your post provides a reference point to read up the other side's arguments.

The Catholic church seems to have done a pretty good job of marketing itself as the true and original church to unbelievers.

    Hi Isaiah!

Love your new blog! I must thank you once again for providing a remarkable reference showing the factual timeline of the Roman Catholic Church and their "decrees" I'll be using this post on my own blog.

    God Bless Brother! Shalom :)

P.S. In case your wondering, I haven't had that baby yet :)

Jesus said: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.

"Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.

"Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

    Matthew 5:17-19

    Keep your comment to yourself????

Vincent ~ I appreciate your responses. I would like to add my observation. If I was relying on your responses to DHOPE as a pathway to whether or not I wanted to explore Christianity, I would probably look another direction.

Just a little thought from the cheap seats.
  • Vincent Chia · 1 year ago
    Mike,

Thanks for the comment. I was merely quoting from what DHOPE had written (and showing the logical inconsistencies). If you find that offensive, complain about those quotes to the original writer. ;)

    "Keep your comment to yourself????"

That's what DHOPE is suggesting to Isaiah ... to remove the post/critique. Why don't you have a problem with that (double standards)? (DHOPE wrote, "I do hope however that you could remove the rebuttals or even better, remove this post.")

I know; some would prefer internally inconsistent, self-contradictory opinions, as long as the comment suit their ears.

I avoid saying what others want to hear; I believe that's not our "job." @-)

(PS: By the way, I'm a Calvinist; in other words, God seeks man, not vice versa.)

    [The other Mike]:

    > If I was relying on your responses to DHOPE as a pathway to whether or not I wanted to explore Christianity, I would probably look another direction.

In other words, if a person attacks Christianity, it is fine. But if Christians defend their religion, then you are offended. Says a lot actually...
  • Mike · 1 year ago
Actually it doesn't say anything at all because you both made the assumption that I was offended.
  • Vincent Chia · 1 year ago
    Mike,

Ok, let's assume you weren't offended, or find the comment negative.

Then what do you mean by this:

"If I was relying on your responses to DHOPE as a pathway to whether or not I wanted to explore Christianity, I would probably look another direction."?

    What is your problem? B-)
  • Mike · 1 year ago
"So my “gold” is to “denounce” other religions; unfortunately, that’s your coal. So why don’t you keep your comment to yourself? I have my gold, and you keep your coal?"

The bolded part, to me, might have well been "SHUT UP, your opinion doesn't matter". It was a complete communication shut down....

which really isn't a problem for me. Like I said, I was throwing in a little peanut gallery opinion poll. :-w
  • Vincent Chia · 1 year ago
    hey Mike,

Did you really read DHOPE's comment?

He said, "I do hope however that you could remove the rebuttals or even better, remove this post."

Isn't that a better, "SHUT UP, and get rid of your opinion RIGHT NOW!"

So again, what is your problem? You didn't have a problem with DHOPE's comment, especially his "get RID of your POST NOW!" part. SO who is shutting up WHO?

And please re-read my analysis of what DHOPE had written.

It was DHOPE who insisted that “What is coal to one man might be gold to another.”

So, by logical extrapolation of DHOPE's statement, I wrote:

"So my “gold” is to “denounce” other religions; unfortunately, that’s your coal. So why don’t you keep your comment to yourself? I have my gold, and you keep your coal?" geddit? 8-|

Have you heard of a reductio ad absurdum?
  • Also Known As Mike · 1 year ago
So let me rephrase what you're telling me. Since he made his comment, that leaves you free to make the same comment back, only stronger. Hmm. So I guess if what you say is true, then pigs can fly!! :D

    Also known as Mike:

Please do everyone a favor and read up what the phrase "Reductio Ad Absurdum" mean before you post a commment displaying your ignorance.

    @Clappingtrees, [-(

Abraham did not lie, Sarah was the daughter of Terah Abraham's father by another mother. Genesis 20:11-12

Jacob bought the birthright (Genesis 25:34), which Esau
sold and did not honor. The birthright is the blessing they go hand in hand, and it no longer belonged to Esau.

Judah promised Tamar his youngest son but refused to honor the promise. Genesis 38:11-18

All of mankind struggles with sin, if not there would have been no reason for Jesus to come and die for the sins of the world. John 1:29

It is very true, there is nothing impossible with God.
However, God's Word says "DO NOT ADD TO NOR TAKE FROM THE WORD OF THE LORD". Deuteronomy 4:2, Revelation 22:18-19. [-x

When mankind breaks the covenant with the Lord, sin abounds. Deuteronomy 4:6-9, 39-40, 6:24-25.

    @Isaiah

Puritan forgot the most important corruption of scripture: the changing (abolition) of the seventh day, Sabbath.

    Peace

I love good debate when it comes to doctrine. Unfortunately, there will always be some simple-minded folks who rather spew hatred, to fellow Christians no-less. Radical Islam is smiling...

    hey Hannah!

Thank you for dropping by and your kind words of encouragement!

CONGRATULATIONS on the baby boy! Praise God that both son and mother are well! It'll be exciting to find out what you'll name him. :)

with no offence, but that line is pretty much the typical anti-catholic argument, without the understanding of a practising Catholic, but that via personal (that can be plural, a huge plural actually) speculation.

Since when did any religion sprung from claiming to be "Less Authentic" than the other?

Does a Protestant need to continually thrash and getting critical over Catholics to proof that he is right in his faith?

Or Muslim against Taoism....etc. the list goes on. Isn't it obvious the jeering at another religion(s) provokes disharmony?

With an exception to a few cults perhaps, most religions (I reckon) promotes peace yea?
  • Isaiah Chua · 1 year ago
    @ Doughfish:

I am not anti-Roman Catholic per se, as in I have nothing against Roman Catholics as people; my beef is with the Roman Catholic Church.

As to whether a Protestant needs to continually thrash and be critical to prove one's right, no. However, if you see someone about to be tricked by a conman, would you not step forward to warn the potential victim?

Moreover, this concerns the eternal fates of many! Not only do I have many friends who are Roman Catholics but my in-laws are practising Roman Catholics too so I hope that addresses your concerns.

Sure, all religions to varying degrees promote peace but only one promises eternal life through Christ Jesus by faith alone, and grace alone. Not of works, lest any man boast.
